Come What May

Life has certainly taken a turn for the busy. I took a moment earlier today to glance through an old friends blog and it made me eager to find an outlet for me in my life that is easy and that isn't time consuming. I am always telling myself that I need to take time to write my thoughts and to get some of the things I am thinking down on paper, but at the end of the day I am too exhausted to pull out my journal and write about the things that I really want to talk about.

So...

I am going to try to use blogging as an outlet in my life as I go through this crazy, busy, eventful, amazing time of my life. I have so many great things going on and even though sometimes they can all be a little overwhelming I am so blessed and excited to have so many amazing opportunities!

My number one priority of course is my amazing and loving husband, Garret. He is the joy of my life, and the best thing that has ever entered my world. He is so patient and kind with me. I know he would do absolutely anything for me (like wake up in the middle of the night because I heard a scary sound and am paranoid, he will wander the whole house to make sure everything is okay and to make me feel comfortable). I am so blessed to have someone in my life that loves me as much as he does, and I hope that he too knows how much I love him.

My husband and I recently moved to Farmington, Utah. We officially have the most amazing ward. They are such a kind and welcoming group of people! I have never felt to welcomed in church before and so loved by complete strangers. I love the gospel and it is such an added blessing to also have wonderful people to meet with, serve with, and worship with! I am so grateful to have such a strong testimony in the LDS church and to have such a great anchor to hold onto when I am having a difficult time. My husband and I recently got called to serve as Cub Scout Leaders for the Wolves Pack... Talk about a fun time! The wolves are the 8 year olds and we have 6 boys in our pack. They are such a ball of energy and are such great boys and I just love spending my Tuesday evening with them working on their scouting.

My next pride and joy is dance. Dance equals breathing in my book. I have been dancing since I was 3 so I can't ever remember not dancing. I have gone from being the dancer to the teacher and even though the transition can be difficult at times I find such pride in watching my little dance company learn and perform. They work so hard and have come so far in just the few months I have worked with them. My only hope is  I can help the girls find the same love of dance that I had growing up. To give them an outlet in their lives and something healthy to turn to when they hit those rough patches. Dance is such an amazing therapy and distraction from everyday trials. I am so so so grateful to be a dance director at the studio I grew up in. Watching all the girls in the company and seeing them up on stage is such a blessing to me!

School.... though not the funnest thing I do.... is a great blessing. I sometimes struggle with school and lose motivation, but at the same time I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and how school is what will get me to my dream career. I am so excited to be gradually making it closer and closer to becoming a school teacher. In high school I was still debating between going into education or into physical therapy, a battle I had been fighting since I was young. In my junior year I took two classes that changed everything. I decided to take medical anatomy as well as did an internship in a kindergarten class. That year is when I made a life changing decision to be a school teacher. Anatomy was interesting and fascinating  but to be honest I struggled a lot and in the end I knew that trying to get a degree would be difficult and I wasn't even sure if it would be worth it. On the other side my internship, though there were bad days, I just can not get over those little smiling faces and such fun that happens in a kindergarten class. I have another year of classes before I begin my student teaching. I would love to teach kindergarten or first grade but I am getting my K-6 license just in case those older grades start calling my name.

My family is something that is so important to me! I love my siblings, parents, and step family. My mom is the greatest and most dedicated person I know! She has taught me so many great life values and morals. She is such an example of hard work, dedication, and persistence. My little sister is my best friend! Amanda had grown into an amazing young woman and someone that I look up to. She is one of the best examples of the kind of spiritual person I want to be. I am so proud of her and for all that she is doing in her life! I am so excited for her to serve a mission and for that great experience she will get to have. My brother is the greatest brother a sister can ask for. I have never heard him get angry or frustrated. He is the nicest and calmest person I know. He is the best person to call if you need anything because he will stop whatever he is doing to come and help you. I am so excited for my brother to get married in May to Hannah and I am very excited to have Hannah as a sister-in-law. She is such a cute girl and so happy and intelligent. She has such great priorities in her life and is just so much fun to be around. I am so excited for her and my brother to get to spend the rest of their lives together. My dad is another wonderful example of love. Even though he lives all the way in Herriman (which I guess really isn't that far, but still). I am so blessed to have a father who loves and supports me. He always knows how to make me laugh. My dad's wife and kids are such great people. Even though we are still getting to know each other I enjoy spending time with them and am so happy to see my dad happy.

Some other joys in my life include:

  • Rock Climbing - I love going climbing outdoors and Utah is a wonderful place to be in the mountains!
  • Photography - Even though I don't really know what I am doing I love seeing the world through a new light. I am constantly seeing things know that I wouldn't have noticed and wish I can my camera on me to capture these amazing candid moments that happen daily.
  • Singing - Even though I get major stage fright when I sing in front of people, there is one person who I can sing my heart out with and that is my husband Garret. We have gotten into the habit of cranking up the radio when we are in the car and just singing/yelling our hearts out in a mix of good and terrible singing. Hopefully the other cars around us can't hear it....
  • Crafts - Maybe this is one reason why I am so excited to be a teacher. I am obsessed with making things, creating things, and just turning nothing into something spectacular. Anything from coloring, crocheting, scrap-booking, decorating, and much more!
  • Burgers - I have been working at In-N-Out Burger for almost 3 years now and I still eat a burger almost ever shift I work. I am obsessed with In-N-Out and I guess just food in general. If you ever need a good burger let me know and I can tell you exactly what to order :)
